As 2016 comes to a close and you prepare to ring in the New Year, it’s likely that you are in the planning process for 2017. With a new year comes plenty of change and updates, including your employee eligibility verification process.
Effective January 2017, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrations Services (USCIS) has implemented the newly improved Form I-9 to be used for Employment Eligibility Verification. All U.S. employers must use this form when hiring new employees. The new form has several changes, many of which make the form easier to use.
You will now see new prompts and additional instructions to help employees complete the form. More room has been added to enter multiple preparers and translators, as well as an area to add detailed information instead of putting those details in the margins.
The new form can be found here on the United States Citizenship and Immigrations Services website, or you can request the new form by contacting JB Consulting Systems directly.
The old I-9 forms can still be used until January 21, 2017, but the new form is available for immediate use.
For further information or questions pertaining to the new form, please go to the USCIS website at https://www.uscis.gov/i-9.
